Named for one of the University's founders, Dr. G.B. Hodge, the Center was completed in 1973. After major renovations in the building's 37-year history, the G.B. Hodge Center now features all new seating, a new floor and a state-of-the-art Daktronics video scoreboard system and LED ProTables. Along with the renovations, the volleyball and basketball locker rooms are brand new along with the addition a new weight room, the Spartan Performance Center, and a state-of-the-art video control room.
The bottom floor is home to the Athletics Department, which includes offices for the athletic administration and coaches. The Hodge Center features a main arena, home to the men's and women's basketball teams and the volleyball program, and the Spartan Performance Center and athletic training facilities.
The Spartans have experienced a great deal of success on the floor, with the men's basketball team winning an NAIA National Championship in 1982, three NAIA District Six titles and five Peach Belt Conference trophies. Women's basketball took home three straight Peach Belt Conference Championships from 1993-95. Volleyball won three straight NAIA District Six titles from 1987-89, advancing to the national tournament in each of those years, and also took home Peach Belt Conference titles in three straight years from 1993-95.
The Hodge Center was recently nationally recognized in a study by Stadium Journey Magazine, as the publication ranked the arena the 15th-best Division I college basketball arena for game atmosphere and experience. The Hodge Center finished ahead of Michigan State's Breslin Center (16), Louisville's Yum! Center (19), UConn's Gampel Pavilion (20), Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium (31), Indiana's Assembly Hall (34) and Florida's O'Connell Center (63).
